The new General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), coming into effect on December 13, 2024, aims to ensure a high level of product safety for EU consumers. It applies to a wide range of non-food products, including those sold online, and strengthens the obligations for businesses placing products on the EU market.
Due to the stringent requirements in the regulation on medical devices, products covered by this legislation are exempt. Therefore, only products that are not classified as medical devices must be checked according to the requirements listed in the table below.
Some of the key requirements under the GPSR
- Technical documentation, Risk analysis and other necessary information to document the safety of the product. (Article; 5, 6, 7, 8, 9)
- Tytex can support with necessary product and design information.
- Ensure that procedures are in place for products produced in series to remain in conformity with the general safety requirement. (Article 9.4, 18)
- Tytex can provide the production information.
- Product owner shall ensure that their products bear a type, batch or serial number or other element enabling the identification of the product, and which is easily visible and legible for consumers.(Article 9.5)
- Product owner must provide their name, registered trade name or trademark, postal and electronic addresses, and, if different, the contact point’s postal or electronic address for communication. (Article 9.6)
- Have a recall and vigilance system (Safety business gateway). (Article 9.8, 15, 20, 26, 36, 37).
- Have a publicly available communication channel. Phone number and or website.. (Article 9.11)

We recommend that you:
- Review the GPSR legislation: Review the legislation with a focus on the key requirements from the above table.
- Identify any potential impacts: Assess how the GPSR might affect your products and business processes.
- Take necessary actions: Implement any changes needed to ensure your products comply with the GPSR by December 13, 2024.
