Cost-effectiveness and External Hip Protectors Cost-effectiveness analyses are important in the evaluation of intervention programmes, and may influence the strategy of intervention. 

The conclusion is that hip protectors are cost-saving in the prevention of hip fractures among elderly orthopaedic patients with fractures or falls. Even with lower cost for treatment of hip fractures among nursing home residents the cost-saving with the hip protectors is still positive.
